Shade and shelter for a cozy outdoor experience
In projects, Manille
What would a city park be without benches here and there to sit and enjoy nature? We experience fewer visual stimuli, we escape the noise and bustle of the city. The well-placed resting points along the paths, however, also serve an important social function: they are meeting spots where people deliberately choose to spend time.
Casual encounters, secret dates, a birthday party, sliding down together, or even a full-blown barbecue: not every visitor to the city park comes there just to get some fresh air — often there are social intentions as well. With the Manille picnic table, we aim to address the new needs of such a meeting place in the park. A simple bench is not always enough; for many city dwellers, the park has become the garden they don't have.
The roof-shaped 'Fixed Shade' ensures you're always sitting on a dry seat and protected from the harsh sun. You don't need to close or bring in this shade — it can remain outside permanently, if the furniture is securely anchored to the ground.
The backrests offer a relaxed seating posture, while the table at least allows for a card game between four friends. But it doesn't stop there: Manille is designed to be connected in series, creating much longer tables to accommodate the whole family. The more, the merrier! And access is always maintained — you never have to climb over the bench.
