If there is one place to experience the joys of those first warm spring days it’s the shores of Lake Michigan. The signals of warmer days ahead include early morning songs of the sparrows, the first blooms of the tulips, and sunshine that lasts into the evening. The long winter is finally coming to an end!
Family Time
At this home in Michiana Shores, Indiana, a couple hosts their family to celebrate the arrival of the new season. Bernie & Sue are the owners of a local plastics fabricating company in the area and selected Extremis for their outdoor spaces for the fact that it is both durable and beautiful at the same time. It’s not often you find something of extreme quality that is also so aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Their setting was chosen for hosting the family for cozy evenings in their wooded outdoor spaces. The couple’s children are also involved in their business so the first hour at the Pantagruel picnic table involves catching up about the week over charcuterie and wine while the grandchildren run free, exploring the woods.
Later, while the Vonken pizza oven fires up, the grandkids take a dip in the hot tub. At the sol+luna, the rest of the family lounges under the LED shade that’s illuminated as the sun sinks beyond the trees. When the oven is ready, the pizza-making begins and the crew migrates back to the Pantagruel to pass their handcrafted pizzas around the table with the integrated lazy susan.
Each piece of furniture selected for this terrace keeps the party flowing through the night. A thoughtful outdoor design considers how a family might use every inch of their outdoor space and allows form to follow function at all times.
