Sanding wood

Every 2 years (+/- 45 min)

After a few years, your wood will show cracks and perhaps some distortion. This is perfectly normal as wood is a natural and living material. The great advantage of solid wood is that you can sand away the top layer to make the surface even and smooth again. You should do this every two years using a hand sanding machine. Choose a dry day. Finish off with a 120-grit sandpaper.

Instructions

Follow the instructions below or in video above

  • Clean the table thoroughly with Extremis Wood Cleaner, making sure the wood surface is dry for at least 24 hours.
  • Protect painted or galvanized parts with sturdy masking tape.
  • Start with 80-grit sandpaper (for rough surfaces) and always finish with 120-grit!
  • First sand any vertical edges and then the rest of the wood until you have a smooth, even surface.
  • Always work in the direction of the wood grain and keep the sanding machine perfectly level.
  • To finish, manually sand the edges of each wood segment using a hand sanding block, also with 120-grit paper.
  • Remove all dust residues after sanding.

Once all dust has been removed, we recommend you to oil your table immediately using Extremis Wood Protector.
