Bistroo receives red dot award

Extremis’ design ‘Bistroo’ wins a prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019. Bistroo is the newest ‘tool for togetherness’ of Extremis and - as with all its designs - the idea for Bistroo originated while observing how people interact and aims to spark and enhance these specific interactions.

The design process

At Extremis, a design process starts only from an idea that is both necessary and useful. Extremis believes in transforming the ways we live and interact with each other for the better. That is why reacting to societal changes is part of the design philosophy. Bistroo is one of the examples of a design made for a world where every square centimeter counts. It is a piece of furniture designed for density and more intense interactions. Bistroo is ideally suited for small spaces and feels right at home against the backdrop of a cosy, compact bistro or on a small city balcony.

'Love is not about staring at each other, but about looking in the same direction.'

The idea of the Bistroo table

Dirk Wynants, the founding father and designer of Extremis, explains where the idea of Bistroo came from. “A romantic bistro in Paris served as inspiration for the ideation of Bistroo. On the terrace of a typical Paris bistro where people sit side by side, room is dense and scarce. This is the exact scenery that sparked the idea to develop a tabletop, two seats and three legs all in one. Bistroo enables you to sit side by side, observing and commenting as the world goes by. “
